03 with reference to your Despatches No. 294 57037
I
of the 6th. September, and 443 of the 24th. December last, have the honour to inform you that as the First Clerk in the Registrar-General's Office is a European, it will be necessary to fix a Sterling Salary for the post and to give Mr. Bullin the option of accepting it in place of the dollar salary which
he now draws. I therefore submit that the Sterling salary
should be fixed at £200 per annum rising to £280 by £40 trien- nially. In the case of Mr. Bullin a non-pensionable allowance
of £72 should be added, to cover the dollar allowances now
granted to him for fuel and light, and to compensate him for
loss of free quarters. As the salary of Mr. Wodehouse, when
First Clerk, would have amounted in Sterling to about £206
rising to £270 per annum, I am of opinion that the salary now
proposed is not excessive.
I have the honour to be,
sir.

Humble servant,
